A Close-to-Home Practice for American River Canyon
American River Canyon is a neighborhood in north Folsom, set between Oak Avenue and Greenback Lane near the American River below Folsom Dam. It is part of the City of Folsom and of Sacramento County, with unincorporated Orangevale right next door to the west. Despite the name, it is a residential area, not the river gorge itself, and it has nothing to do with the community of Gold River downstream.
Outdoor life is a big part of the neighborhood. Bud & Artie Davies Park, named for a couple who moved to Folsom in 1951, has lighted tennis and basketball courts, a soccer field and a pavilion. American River Canyon Drive is also an access point to the 32-mile American River Bike Trail, on the stretch that links Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake. Lew Howard Community Park on Baldwin Dam Road adds more courts and another trail connection nearby.
Beyond the neighborhood, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area covers roughly 19,500 acres around Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma and draws about 2 million visitors a year. For people who spend their free time pedaling or paddling, knowing where to go for dental help is part of being prepared. Our hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
For American River Canyon households with school-age kids, Carl H. Sundahl Elementary on Inwood Road is one of the Folsom Cordova Unified schools close by. Children who grow up shooting hoops at Davies Park pick up the same bumps and chips as their parents. We welcome patients of all ages, so one office can look after the whole family, from a first cleaning for a young child to a crown for a parent who cracked a molar on the trail.
Active Lifestyles and Dental Health in American River Canyon
Trail riding and court sports are good for the heart, but they are hard on teeth. A fall on the bike path, a racquet to the face or an elbow under the basket can chip a front tooth or crack a molar in an instant. Some injuries are obvious right away; others show up weeks later as sensitivity to cold or a dull ache when chewing.
Damage inside the tooth is the one people tend to miss. A hit that leaves the enamel intact can still bruise or injure the nerve, and that tooth may darken or become tender over time. Digital x-rays and a careful exam can spot the warning signs early, and root canal therapy done in our office can often save a tooth that would otherwise be lost.
New patients can come in for a free emergency exam and x-rays, and we strive to fit you into our schedule with an emergency dental exam. Prevention still beats repair, so a properly fitted mouthguard for basketball, soccer and mountain biking is a smart habit. Regular cleanings also let Dr. Coons watch for small cracks before they spread.
Tooth Repair From a Dentist Near American River Canyon
Root Canal Therapy
When an injury or deep decay reaches the nerve, a root canal removes the damaged tissue and seals the tooth. Treatment stays in our office, so there is no extra referral trip.
Crowns & Veneers
A crown rebuilds a cracked molar, while a veneer can mask a chipped front tooth. Our guide to the differences between crowns and veneers helps you weigh the two before your visit.
Dental Implants
If a tooth cannot be saved after a bad fall, an implant replaces the root and the crown. Dr. Coons places implants in-house using CBCT 3D imaging and guided surgical placement.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Once a damaged tooth is healthy again, cosmetic care helps it blend in. Whitening and porcelain veneers can even out color and shape across the whole smile.
Meet Your Folsom Dental Team
Dr. Brad Coons is a California native who grew up in the East Bay and now lives in Folsom, where he spends his free time on the region's trails, rivers and lakes. He finished a Half Ironman in 2016 and swam from Alcatraz in 2017, so he understands an athlete's priorities. Our front desk team keeps scheduling simple for busy households.

What Patients Are Saying
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is The Folsom Dentist from American River Canyon, and how do I get there?
It is a 4.9-mile drive from Bud & Artie Davies Park, usually about 11 minutes. The route runs along Oak Avenue, Folsom-Auburn Road, Greenback Lane and Riley Street, then East Bidwell Street to Hana Way. Residents wanting a dentist near American River Canyon can reach us without ever getting on US-50.
What should I do if a permanent tooth gets knocked out?
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root, and get to a dentist as quickly as possible. Rinse it gently if it is dirty and keep it moist, ideally in milk or back in the socket. Fast care gives the tooth its best chance, and new patients receive a free emergency exam and x-rays.
Can a cracked tooth be fixed with a crown in one visit?
Often, yes. Our CEREC system lets Dr. Coons restore a cracked tooth with a crown in just one visit, so there is no second crown appointment. He first checks the crack with an exam and x-rays, because a crack that reaches the root may need different treatment before a crown makes sense.
Do you do root canals in your office?
Yes, root canal therapy is done in-house. Dr. Coons removes the infected or injured nerve tissue, cleans and seals the inside of the tooth, and then protects it, usually with a crown. Keeping the whole process in one office means fewer appointments and one team who already knows your history.
Where did Dr. Coons go to dental school?
Dr. Coons graduated with honors from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 2018. He studied exercise science at Brigham Young University first, and he has since taken continuing education through the Kois Center in Seattle. He also completed advanced oral surgery training at the University of the Pacific for wisdom tooth extractions.
